From 1946 to 1955 Vladimir Kokonin was studding at the Central music school at the Moscow state conservatory named after P.I. Tchaikovsky, and from 1955 to 1960 at the Moscow state conservatory in the clarinet class.
In 1965 Vladimir Kokonin finished the conservatory and entered at the Bolshoi theater, where he had worked with the orchestra until 1967. At the same time with his studding and working in the orchestra Vladimir teaching and working with literary and theatre, collaborating with the editors of large-circulation newspapers of the Bolshoi theater the "Soviet artist".
In 1967, Vladimir was invited to the Ministry of culture of the USSR. Until 1970 he had worked at the positions of responsibility in the management of musical institutions of the Ministry of culture of the USSR, in 1970 he was appointed as s Deputy Director of all-Union tour and concert Association "the all-state concert of the USSR". From 1981 to 1986, Vladimir Kokonin was working at the Bolshoi theatre of the USSR - a Deputy Director on repertoire, was a member of the arts Council theatre. In 1986 - 1988 Vladimir Kokonin came back to the Ministry of culture of the USSR as a head of musical institutions, a member of the Board. During this period he was participating in the preparation and performing of major cultural events of the country - festivals of arts "USSR - India" and "USSR - Cuba".
In 1988 Vladimir returned to the Bolshoi theater. Until 1991 he had been a General Director of the Bolshoi theater and the Kremlin Palace of congresses. From 1991 to 1995 he was the General Director of the famed Bolshoi theatre and from 1995 to 2000 – an Executive Director.
Vladimir Kokonin made a significant contribution to updating of the theatre, creating a number of significant performances. He facilitated return to the theater the world master of Opera directing - B.A. Pokrovsky. He enriched the repertoire of Russian classics thanks to "Mlada" and "the Night before Christmas" by N. Rimsky-Korsakov's, "Girl of Orleans", "Eugene Onegin" (new production) by Tchaikovsky, "Life for the king" by M. Glinka. The Opera troupe under the leadership of V.M. Coconino successfully held concerts in USA, Italy and Japan. The members of the Opera troupe became more qualified : talented people such as M. Gavrilova, Leonid Rudakov, E. bryleva, P. Black, B. Redkin, V. Matorin was attracted.
