Xiyohira Kiyohara is the founder of the Fujiwara family of Hiraizumi, Mutsu (northeastern part of Japan). He first sided with Hide-take Kimiko and Iehira in their war against Sanehira, but later changed over to Yoshne Minamoto and helped in destroying them. Xiyohira Kiyohara was appointed Mutsu Oryoshi (police officer to Imperial Court) and began living in style after the mode of a court noble. He introduced the culture of Kyoto to Hiraizumi and made it a great cultural center.
