In 1944 Yakov Alexandrovich graduated from the Department of Chemistry of the Kazakhstan State University (now Al-Farabi Kazakh National University) in the city of Almaty.
Since 1944, Yakov Alexandrovich was an assistant, associate professor, professor, head (1965-1989) of the Department of General and Inorganic Chemistry of Voronezh State University, in 1962-1965, the Department of Semiconductor Chemistry. He was a supervisor and head of the Voronezh school of inorganic chemists.
Research interests: chemistry of semiconductors, fundamental materials science of micro- and nanoelectronics, processes in volume, and on the surface of semiconductors.
Author of over 500 works, including books: "Introduction to the chemistry of semiconductors" (Moscow, 1965; 1975), "General Chemistry" (Moscow, 1984), "Inorganic chemistry” (Moscow, 1989), "General and inorganic chemistry" (Moscow, 1997).
