Yoritada Suwa was born in 1536 in Japan. He was the son of Mitsutsura.
After the death of Yorishige, the head of the main Suwa family, he succeeded him and recovered the former Suwa territory in Shinano Province (Nagano Prefecture.) which had been taken by the Takedas of Kai Province (Yamanashi Prefecture) and made Takashima Castle his headquarters.
Served the Tokugawas and attacked Tsumagome Castle, in Shinano, of the Toyotomis in the Komaki Battle (1544), spearheaded the attack on Ued.a Castle in Shinano (1549) and fought with distinction under Tadayo Qkubo in the Odawara campaign. Was given a fief of 12,000 koku in Musashi Province; later transferred to Soja in Kozuke Province (Gumma Prefecture) and then returned to Takashima Castle where he received a fief of 25,000 koku.
