Yoshimasa Kiso was lord of Kiso District and lived at Fukushima Castle, He was often attacked by the troops of Shingen Takeda and to settle this internecine warfare he surrended to Shingen and the pact was made firmer with his marriage to Shingen's daughter. Katsuyori, Shingen's son, however, continued to impose heavy taxes on Yoshimasa, till the latter could not bear it any longer. He appealed to Tomomasa Toyama for help, who advised him to become a subject of Nobunaga Oda. This infuriated Katsuyori and he began open warfare. Yoshimasa with the help of his new overlord fought back and the house of Takeda was soon destroyed. After this Yoshimasa was given the district of Aznmi in Shinano (Nagano Prefecture) in addition to Kiso to rule.
