Served Yoritomo Minamoto, and though he was first defeated in his master’s battle* against the Heike family at Mt. Ishibashi (1180) he nevertheless distinguished himself by destroying the Heike family at Dannoura (near Shimonoseki). Later he defeated Yasuhira Fujiwara in Oshu, northeast Japan (1189) and was elevated to a high post in the Shogunate.
