Yuri Borisovich graduated from the Voronezh Musical College (1965, bayan class), 4th year of the Voronezh State Institute of Arts (now Voronezh State Academy of Arts) (1977, bayan class), Petrozavodsk branch of the Leningrad Conservatory (now Saint Petersburg Conservatory) (1978, bayan class, composition class by A.L. Repnikov).
Simultaneously with his studies, he worked as a teacher at the Voronezh Children's Music School (1961–1962), as an accompanist of the folk ensemble of technical and vocational education "Vesennie Zori" (1962–1974), since 1968, art director of this ensemble. Soloist-accompanist of the Voronezh Regional Philharmonic (1974-1977), art director of the ensemble "Voronezhskie devchata" (since 1977). Since 1998 was a professor of the Department of Folk Instruments of the Voronezh State Academy of Arts.
Yuri Borisovich Romanov together with the groups led by him, is a laureate of the World Festivals of Youth and Students (Helsinki, 1962; Havana, 1978; Moscow, 1985) and the Lenin Komsomol Prize (1979). He toured in more than 40 countries. Yuri released 4 records, 2 CDs with the recording of the repertoire of the ensemble "Voronezhskie devchata".
