Akimasa Kitabatake

Background

Akimasa Kitabatake was born in 1440. He was the son of Akiyasu Kitabatake, and ancestor of the Okochi family.

Career

Akimasa Kitabatake resided at Okochi Castle, Ise Province (Mie Prefecture), from where he helped the Nancho (south dynasty) fight Mochiyori Toki, Governor of Ise Province, who sided with the Hokucho (north dynasty). Later when Shogun Yoshmori Ashikaga made peace, Akimasa was awarded a fief and treated with great consideration (1440). Two years later, however, he entered a monastery and became a priest.
