Kenrin Matsushita

Background

Kenrin was the son of Kenboku Matsushita, a doctor.

Career

He followed his father's profession and began his career as a physician in Kyoto. He is, however, remembered mostly as a scholar of the national classics, in which he made considerable research. Late in life, he entered the services of Lord of Takamatsu (Kanawa Prefecture).

Interests

• Is said to have owned a library consisting of a hundred thousand volumes. His most famous work titled Isho Nihonden is a compilation of extracts concerning Japan, from Chinese and Korean history books.
