Mitsumasa Kitabatake was born in Japan He was the son of Akiyasu Kitabatake.

Career

Mitsumasa Kitabatake was Governor of Ise Province (Mie Prefecture), when the Shogun broke the peace treaty which had been signed between the Nancho (south dynasty) and the Hokucho (north dynasty) (1392). Angry at this Mitsumasa raised an army to attack Shogun Yoshimochi Ashikaga, but could not subdue him. Peace was restored again, but war flared once more and this time he was killed in battle while fighting for Prince Yasunari, son of Emperor Gomura-kami.
