When Sanehira Kiyohara fought with his step-brother, Lehira and Kiyohira, of the same family, Takehira sided with Iehira (1083). Yoshiie Minamoto, Mutsu-no-Kami (Lord of Mutsu District), sided with Sanehira. This was the origin of Gosannen-no-Eki. Yoshiie attacked Takehira at Kanazawa fort. Meanwhile, Kiyohira surrendered to Yoshiie and attacked Takehira and cut off his supply line. Hard pressed, Takehira offered to surrender, but was rejected. He then tried to escape after setting fire to the fort, but was captured and beheaded.
