Before entering university, Victor Afanasevich worked as a turbomechanician at Chelyabinsk State regional power plant. In 1942-1944, Victor Afanasevich was a teacher in Saratov district, Chuvash ASSR. He was the head of roman philology department of Chernovitskiy State University.
Then in 1956-1957, Victor Afanasevich gained a senior scientist position, and became the head of roman linguistics faculty in Moldova branch of Academy of Sciences USSR (Kishinev). Later on he headed the linguistic matters and Russian philology department in Turkmen State Teaching Institute (Charzhou). Since 1962, a professor, then since 1966 the head of the French philology department at Romance-German philology faculty in Voronezh State University.
