Zuisen Ikeda was born in 1734.
When a smallpox epidemic broke out in Miyajima, Hiroshima Prefecture, the manuscript helped him consiaerably in treating the victims. Later he gave up surgery and practiced vaccination in Kyoto and Osaka. Later was appointed medical officer in Edo (now Tokyo) (1797) where he founded a vaccination station and taught the subject at a medical school.
