When he went to Edo, he was asked by Shogun Iemitsu Tokugawa to initiate him into the secret meanings of the poetry of Kokin-wakashu Anthology but Micnimura refused, saying that it was a family secret. When Emperor Gomi abdicated because of indignation over the Shogunate’s high-handedness, Michimura was suspected by the Shogunate of having advised the Emperor to do so. As a resuit, he was placed under house arrest for a long period.
